At ScaleX Labs, we are building the integrated Responsible AI platform for the development professionals of the Global South — tools that strengthen the people doing the work, never replace them. People lead. AI strengthens.
We are assembling our founding engineering team to take four working prototypes — the AI-Powered MEL System, GenTraQ™, GrantIQ™, and the ScaleX Labs Academy — to a funded MVP. These roles are remote-first and global, and we especially welcome applicants from Africa and the wider Global South. At this stage we commit talent through letters of intent and conditional engagement, with formal, paid engagement beginning once MVP funding is secured

1. Lead AI / Platform Engineer (founding technical lead)
Own the architecture of the ScaleX Labs platform and drive all four prototypes to a robust, integrated MVP. This is our critical first engineering hire and the platform’s named technical lead.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture of the integrated, offline-first platform (mobile and desktop progressive web apps).
- Lead the prototype-to-MVP path across the MEL System, GenTraQ™, GrantIQ™, and the Academy.
- Set standards for security, data privacy, performance, and Responsible AI, and build and mentor a small founding team.
You bring
- Senior full-stack or platform engineering experience shipping production software.
- Strong command of progressive web apps, offline-first architecture, cloud, and application security.
- Experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities; building for low-connectivity or Global South contexts is a strong advantage.
2. Full-Stack / Backend Engineer
Build and scale the services and interfaces that power the platform across all four systems.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build backend services, APIs, and data models shared by the four platforms.
- Contribute responsive, offline-first front-end work and reliable data synchronization for intermittent connectivity.
- Uphold security, data-privacy, and performance standards across international contexts.
You bring
- Strong full-stack ability with solid backend depth (for example, TypeScript/JavaScript and Python).
- Experience with API design, databases, and progressive web apps.
- A pragmatic, test-minded approach to shipping.
3. AI / ML Engineer
Design and integrate the intelligence that makes evidence generation faster and more useful — from evaluation and synthesis to Gender Transformative measurement and funding analytics.
Key responsibilities
- Build and integrate AI and machine-learning features across the MEL System, GenTraQ™, and GrantIQ™.
- Develop retrieval, analysis, and synthesis capabilities that accelerate labor-intensive evidence work.
- Implement Responsible AI guardrails — human-in-the-loop review, output evaluation, and safeguards against Shadow AI.
You bring
- Solid machine-learning and NLP experience, including building LLM-based features.
- Familiarity with data pipelines and model evaluation, and a genuine commitment to Responsible AI.
- Proficiency in Python and related tooling.
